Description
Learn the basics of Cotswold Morris, the lively traditional dance of southern England!
Wielding a stick or a pair of handkerchieves, and bedecked with bells and ribbons, the morris dancer is an iconic figure in our national psyche – but how much do you really know about this often-misunderstood part of English folk heritage?
Join Rachael Borek, a professional bellydancer who has also danced Costwold morris for over a decade, to learn where morris dancing comes from, why it matters so much today, and most importantly, how to do it! Rachael will guide you through a beginner-friendly morris dance with handkerchieves, showing you how morris dance combines precise footwork, varied floor patterns, and dramatic “capers” to create a dynamic and uplifting performance, which honours the past whilst leaping forward into the future (with bells on!)

Rachael Borek is a bellydance performer and teacher in Manchester. She has also been a Cotswold morris dancer since 2015 – dancing with Oxford University Morris, one of the UK’s oldest “revival” morris sides, and more recently also with Roots Morris, a new inclusive morris side based in Manchester. Rachael believes firmly in the importance of learning, supporting, and sharing our local music and dance traditions – and that by doing this, we can also have even more appreciation for the other dances from around the world that we love to learn and perform!
