Description
A relaxing yet information-packed end to your Dance JOY weekend! In this workshop, Rachael will guide you through one of the Egyptian diva Oum Kalthoum’s most beloved songs, “Alf Leila w Leila”/”One Thousand and One Nights”. By the end, you will have the musical and cultural knowledge you need to feel confident dancing to this musical masterpiece – including lyrics and meaning, rhythmic shifts, and a toolkit of concepts and techniques which will empower you to create your own structured improvisation or choreography.
This is not a choreography class, and there will be no complicated combinations to memorise – instead, you’ll be immersed in the music, with carefully chosen cues and technique suggestions to guide your improvisation. We will focus on listening, feeling, and being in the present moment… and allowing the music to move us.
