Kay as a teacher / mentor / developing dancers
There is nothing I like better than helping dancers achieve their full potential through private lessons, classes, workshops and courses. From beginners to more advanced dancers … whether you are starting your journey or wanting to develop different aspects of your dance.
I have been teaching classes in the North East for nearly 30 years. I love to see each persons progress and help structure their learning. I encourage my dancers to go to other teachers, workshops and events. Many of my dancers have gone on to teach themselves and we have a thriving bellydance community in the North East. Dance City in central Newcastle is my base and where I hold regular ‘in person’ classes on a Wednesday night for beginners and improvers.
Lockdown changed everything. Some dropped by the wayside as their lives changed. I developed an online membership programme to help people keep dancing – and started an outdoor bellydance fitness class: Shimmy Camp. Eventually I embraced zoom and started teaching hybrid classes. Shimmy Camp and my higher level class on a Tuesday night are both hybrid. I love having my ‘Zoomers’ and Roomers’ together.
Shimmy Camp:
Tuesday night 6 – 6.45pm
Anyone is welcome to Shimmy Camp – it is about getting moving and dancing again. I use basic bellydance moves and stepping patterns. It is fairly high energy and fun. We dance outdoors in the summer when the weather is good – and indoors when it is cold or wet. I love that people join on zoom as well as in person.
Amarettes Level 3 classTuesday night 7-8pm
To join this whether in person or on zoom you sign up to my membership programme ‘Love Bellydance’. You have access to 3 ‘live’ classes. This class, Shimmy Camp and an open level zoom class on a Thursday night (5.30 – 6.30pm). You also get pre-recorded tutorials to support the work we do in class. At £28 per month, it is a bargain. Click here to join Love Bellydance.
I send you the zoom links every month once you join. For more details about membership levels see further down.
I have taught at most UK festivals over the years – as well as some international ones. Japan is probably the furthest I have travelled to teach. UK Festivals I have taught at: Fantasia, JoY, Celebrating Dance, Majma, Shimmy by the Sea, GFAD, International Bellydance Summer School and Shimmy up North. I also get invited to different areas to teach workshops. I am always interested in going to different events and areas. Each has its own character and I get to meet lots of wonderful people.
More about ‘Love Bellydance’
It is a labour of love constantly producing tutorials and videos and sourcing cultural or music clips.
1/ Raqsette: 2 posts a week: Level 1 technique, choreography or fun follow along and a cultural or music clip.
2/ Sharqette: 3 posts a week: The same as a Raqsette PLUS and additional clip with choreography / technique suitable for Level 2 dancers.
3/ Amarette: 4 posts a week. All of the above plus one post a week with technique / choreography suitable to Level 3 dancers. Amarettes can also join my ‘live’ classes either in person or on zoom.
Classes you can join:
Tuesday night 6 – 6.45: Shimmy Camp
Tuesday night 7 – 8pm: Level 3 – Develop the bellydancer within – combination of technique, choreography & improvisation. Every term is different.
Thursday night 5.30 – 6.30pm: Open level class. I adapt the content to the participants. We focus on bellydance foundations. The posts each week support both my in person and hybrid class material.
